RIP

I was looking at my HDDVD library and I told myself that one day my player will fail, I absolutely have to save the films. But as soon as the operation started I realised that something was wrong, out of 33 HDDVDs to be backed up 19 were partially or totally unreadable. Errors are present during playback even though the media has been kept in good conditions and the discs have no appearance defects. After some research it would appear that I am not the only one in this case. Some of the media from 2006 to 2007 were made with low quality materials that deteriorate over time and make the media unusable.

I make a note of this and save as soon as possible the HDDVDs that are still readable and mourn those that are lost.

The lesson of this story: never trust digital media: Save! The second lesson: if you don’t have the files you don’t have anything.
